srvctl stop database

Published by Alessandro Caredda on

With the article “srvctl stop database,” we provide the command to stop all instances of an Oracle database in an RAC via CRS.

In previous articles, we extensively discussed the scenarios that could arise when stopping RAC instances.

The main reasons include: server maintenance activities, which can range from server maintenance to associated network or storage device maintenance. Or, for example, OS updates, or in the most dramatic scenarios, in the event of a database crash, we are required to shut down all RAC instances.

So, what should we do in these cases?

Head straight to the CRS Commands page on scriptDBA.com, where you’ll find 2 categories: Comandi CRSCTL – CRS Oracle e Comandi SRVCTL – CRS Oracle, explaining clearly what CRS is and the function of these 2 main commands.

So, if we need to stop all database instances, follow the guide in the following article.

Before executing the stop, check the status of resources with the command:

crsctl status res -t

Il comando di srvctl stop database da eseguire è:

srvctl stop database -d <nome_database> -o <opzione>

Example:

srvctl stop database -d DBTESTp -o immediate

Once the prompt is returned, recheck the status of resources with the command:

crsctl status res -t
